Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal recently responded to a LinkedIn post, criticizing the food delivery platform for an extra fee on vegetarian food deliveries. LinkedIn user Rohit Ranjan shared a post highlighted the new “extra charge” on vegetarian orders, calling it a “luxury tax” on vegetarians. He expressed his frustration, saying Zomato had turned vegetarian food deliveries into a “premium subscription plan.” Following the backlash, Zomato CEO replied to the post, saying the company will remove the fee and “fix what’s needed to fix in the team so that such s**t doesn’t happen again.”

Sharing a screenshot of his bill, Ranjan wrote, “Being a vegetarian🌽🥬🥑🥝 in India these days feels like curse! Zomato’s latest masterstroke—introducing an “extra charge” for the veg enablement fleet—has officially turned us into a premium subscription plan.

He also thanked rival food delivery platform Swiggy for its equal treatment of all food options.

What Zomato CEO replied
Replying to the post, Goyal said “This is absolutely stupid on our part. I am super sorry for this. This charge will be removed today itself. Will also fix what’s needed to fix in the team so that such s**t doesn’t happen again.”
