NEW DELHI: BJP candidate from New Delhi, Parvesh Verma, on Saturday immersed a cutout of his election rival and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal into the polluted water of Yamuna near ITO for his failure to clean the river.
Verma alleged that despite being in office for 11 years and spending nearly Rs 8,000 crore, AAP govt failed to deliver on its promise of cleaning Yamuna. “This is the biggest betrayal to the people of Delhi,” Verma said.
There was no immediate reaction available from AAP.
The former west Delhi MP said Kejriwal promised to clean the Yamuna and take a dip into the river before the assembly elections in 2025, but the situation worsened.
“By immersing his cutout, we are exposing his failure to the people of Delhi,” Verma said. “Kejriwal’s tenure as chief minister has been limited to hollow promises and false claims. By highlighting the failures of Kejriwal and AAP govt, we are sending a clear message that the problems of Delhi will remain unresolved as long as the politics of lies and propaganda continues, and it is time to free Delhi from deceitful promises,” he added.
The BJP candidate from New Delhi assembly constituency accused his rival contestant of “lacking the intent and capability” to clean Yamuna.
In his campaign for Delhi assembly polls, Kejriwal admitted that he could not fulfil the promise of cleaning the Yamuna. He assured people that the river will be cleaned in the next two to three years after AAP returns to office.
Calling him a “clown”, AAP’c chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said Verma’s antics was a “desperate attempt” to gain media spotlight. “He has an endless amount of money earned through corruption. He thinks he can buy votes by distributing money. But even after all his antics, no one is giving him any attention on the ground or in media. BJP has ended Parvesh Verma’s political career by putting him up against Arvind Kejriwal,” she said.
