Vegas cybertruck bomber Mathhew Livelsberger had an astounding military career.

Matthew Livelsberger, or Matt Berg, the 37-year-old suspect bomber of the Las Vegas cybertruck was an active army member and has many feathers in his crown. A LinkedIn profile believed to be belonging to the Colorado Springs military details all his deployments since he joined the Army in 2006. It also claims he was a Special Forces soldier, Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems qualified implying that he had trained to be a drone pilot.
Livelsberger joined the Green Beret as a communication specialist in January 2006, before becoming an operations manager and team sergeant in February 2023. Going by his LinkedIn profile listing, his most recent role from November 2024 was as a Remote and Autonomous Systems Manager for the Army.

Summa cum Laude

Livelsberger was awarded with a summa cum laude, an award for the students earning the highest grades in their class. He studied at Norwich University in Vermont, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis.

News articles about Livelsberger spending time with Aghan kids during his deployment in Afghanistan surfaced on social media. “Livelsberger, 21, is starting a collection of clothes, toys, recreational and educational items for kids ages 1 to 14, and he needs local help,” the newspaper report said.
“How does such a person get convinced to do this???!” a user commented. “He has a broad skill set in technology, operations etc,” the comment read.

Terror attack or suicide?

The cybertruck explosion took place hours after the New Orleans attack and both the attackers used Turo app to get rented cars. Since there was no casualty in the Las Vegas case apart from the driver, several questions have been raised as to whether it was an attack or a premeditated suicide.
As Elon Musk said the cybertruck was the wrong car as it contained much of the damage within itself, social media users commented that an Army person should be well aware of that fact. Also the explosive materials found in the truck were all combustible but not ideal for an extensive explosion.
“With the level of experience that he had, how does it make sense that he would rent a Cybertruck, which are known to be bulletproof, and fill it with ineffective explosives that he would know would not actually damage much, if anything?” a viral post read.
