What India focused on 10 years ago vs today? Rahul Gandhi responds

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, when asked what should the issues in focus be for the country compared to 10 years back, said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government believed “resources should be distributed more fairly”, unlike the BJP which he claimed has been “aggressive on the growth”.
During his interaction with IIT Madras students, the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha kept his viewpoints on the social and international front.
“In the Congress and UPA, we generally believed that the resources should be distributed more fairly and growth should be wider. In the BJP, they are more aggressive on growth, they believe in what is in economic terms called ‘trickle down’,” said Rahul Gandhi when asked about what should be part of the national conversation compared to a decade back.
He further said: “On the social front we feel that the more harmonious society is, the less people are fighting, and the better it is for the country. On the international relations front, there probably be some differences with regards to the way we relate to other countries but broadly it will be similar.”

Rahul Gandhi shared a video of his interaction with students at IIT Madras on Saturday, calling the need for India to prioritise quality education through government support rather than privatisation.
“I feel that a country needs to guarantee quality education to its people. And I don’t think that the best way to guarantee quality education to our people is to privatize everything,” he said.
The BJP, dismissed Gandhi’s remarks, calling them “sermons through choreographed videos” and pointing to significant educational reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
