JHUNJHUNU: In a heart-warming tale of compassion and bravery, a young man risked his life Monday to rescue a cat that had fallen into a 120-foot-deep dry well at Soti village in Jhunjhunu district. The feline was trapped for five days, crying out for help as it struggled to survive.
The story began near the Shri Balaji Temple in Soti, where the cat fell into an old, abandoned well. It was a group of nearby farmers who first noticed the cat’s plight. Over the course of five days, they took it upon themselves to feed the frightened animal, but their attempts to rescue it were unsuccessful.
As the cat’s cries echoed through the nights, word of the situation reached the Prani Mitra Seva Samiti in Jhunjhunu. Animal lover Dr Ankit Kheechad and his team responded, mobilising to save the distressed cat. Among them was Ankit Kumar, a young man whose love for animals drove him to take immediate action.
Equipped with a rope and a steadfast determination, Ankit descended into the perilous depths of the well Monday evening. The dry structure was not only 120 feet deep but also showed signs of damage, making the rescue mission all the more treacherous. “The cat was terrified after being trapped for so long and didn’t respond to our initial attempts to catch it,” Ankit recalled.
For an hour and a half, Ankit worked tirelessly within the well, trying various techniques to coax the frightened cat into a net. With patience and persistence, he finally succeeded in capturing the scared animal, bringing it back to safety.
As Ankit emerged from the well in the night, the cat was still visibly shaken but alive. After a brief moment of recovery, it dashed towards the nearby fields, free at last from its ordeal.
