Watch: Debt-ridden Telangana farmer takes poison at bank, dies; KT Rama Rao slams Congress govt

HYDERABAD: A 60-year-old farmer, Jadhav Devrao, who took a loan from a private bank, died by suicide on the bank’s premises in Adilabad on Saturday.

Around 1.30pm, Jadav Devrao walked into the bank and little later took the extreme step, the Mavala police said. Though he was shifted to hospital, he was declared brought dead. The incident was captured on CCTV of the bank.
On learning about Jadav’s death, his family members and relatives staged a protest, alleging that the farmer was harassed by bank officials for the recovery of the loan.
“Jadav mortgaged his five-acre land in 2019 and took a loan of 3.40 lakh. Since 2019, he was paying only interest, which was to be paid every six months. He did not pay the last EMI. There are arrears of 3.78 lakh,” Mavala police said.
Though his family members accused the bank officials of harassment, police said they were yet to ascertain the facts. Also, there was an allegation that bank officials did not react in time to shift Jadav to hospital. Police, upon learning about the protest, reached the bank and pacified the protesters.
