Was detained in Mexico: Ludhiana woman

A 21-year-old woman from Ludhiana, who was among the first batch of Indians deported from the US Wednesday, claimed she was detained by Mexican authorities close to US border and then taken into custody by California police, and that she never intended to cross the border illegally.

Ludhiana’s focal points turn industrial wasteland

Muskaan, who went to UK on a study visa for a degree in business management, said: “Along with a group of friends, I flew to Tijuana in Mexico for vacation. From there, we planned to go to the US legally, just for tourism. However, cops in Mexico took us into custody when we were near the US border in Tijuana; we had not crossed the border. They said California police would take us along. They also took our passports, which were returned on the flight to India.” She added that she still had a valid UK visa.
