KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress party’s senior legislator from the Kaliganj constituency in Nadia district, Nasiruddin Ahmed, died of a cardiac arrest on Sunday, according to party officials.
Ahmed experienced health complications at his home around 11.50pm on Saturday and was immediately taken to Palasi Hospital, where he passed away during the early hours of Sunday, as confirmed by the sources.
Condoling the death of Ahmed, chief minister Mamata Banerjee in a post on X said, “Saddened by the sudden demise of my colleague Nasiruddin Ahmed ( Laal), MLA from Kaliganj, Nadia.”
Ahmed was widely known as ‘Laal Da’ in the area.
“A veteran public worker and political representative, he was our trustworthy asset. He was a lawyer and a very good social worker, and I truly valued him,” the TMC chairperson said.
She expressed her condolences to his family, friends, and followers.
The former legal practitioner, who became a lawmaker, secured his first assembly seat whilst representing TMC in 2011, followed by another successful election victory in 2021.
