BIJNOR: A woman lawyer was attacked with acid in the court premises in Thakurdwara town of Moradabad district by two men who were the accused in two cases in which she was representing the plaintiffs.
One of the attackers first held a country-made pistol on 35-year-old Sashi Bala’s temple while the other poured acid on her. She suffered severe burn injuries on one side of her face and head and is admitted in hospital.
An FIR has been registered against the two accused under sections 124(1) and 351(3) of BNS, said police.
According to the FIR, the attack took place around 10.30 am on Friday when Shashi Bala, a resident of Thakurdwara town, was heading towards her chamber.
As soon as her associate Satendra dropped her near her chamber, accused Sachin Kumar and his cousin Nitin Kumar (both from Udham Singh Nagar) rushed from behind and attacked her with acid.
Hearing her screams, fellow lawyers and litigants came to her rescue, and the accused fled. Bala was rushed to a govt hospital at Thakurdwara and police were informed.
According to Shashi Bala, Sachin is an accused in a harassment case filed by a woman, while Nitin is embroiled in a dowry-related case. She said the attackers also threatened her with dire consequences.
Moradabad SP (rural) Kunwar Akash Singh said, “The woman lawyer filed a complaint against two persons alleging that they threw acid on her. The exact nature of the liquid used in the attack is not yet known. She is undergoing treatment and is out of danger. The accused are at large and investigation is on.”
