Two people were killed, and three others were injured in a shooting incident in Clatskanie, Oregon, on Saturday afternoon, according to the Columbia county sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to a residence on Ilmari Road around 1:30 pm (local time) and discovered five victims, including the suspected shooter, who was among the deceased. As per Katu.com, one of the injured was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.Authorities confirmed that all individuals involved were known to each other, and the shooting was not a murder-suicide.
Initially, officials urged residents to stay indoors, calling it an active scene.
However, by 2:42 pm (local time), the sheriff’s office declared there was no ongoing threat to the community. The Columbia county major crimes team, along with Oregon State Police and local law enforcement agencies, is actively investigating the case.
In a separate instance, Jonathan Trent, a 47-year-old man from Oregon, was shot and killed on January 13 while trying to intervene in a mugging at a Fred Meyer grocery store in northeast Portland.
Two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, attempted to rob a woman when Trent stepped in. He was shot as the suspects fled and later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The suspects were arrested and held at a juvenile detention centre. Trent was well-loved in his local swimming community, and a GoFundMe page noted his passing as a significant loss to his loved ones.
