Union minister draws UDF ire for 'insult' to Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Congress-headed UDF on Sunday urged BJP functionary and Union minister George Kurian to withdraw his remarks against Kerala in connection with Budget allocations and tender an apology to the people of the state.
While reacting to criticism by governing LDF and opposition UDF against the Budget, Kurian said on Saturday that if Kerala wants more funds from Centre, the state should declare it is backward in terms of education, infrastructure, and social welfare. UDF said Kurian’s statements amounted to insulting the state, and he had no right to continue in his position. Leader of opposition V D Satheesan said there was not even a mention of Kerala in the Budget and none of the state’s demands were considered.
