NEW DELHI: “They are asking for an additional 10 lakh rupees, which I don’t have the capacity to pay, and I cannot ask my parents to pay further,” claimed Puneet Khurana, a businessman, in a video he recorded before allegedly killing himself at his residence in Model Town on Tuesday.
A part of the 59-minute video has surfaced, in which Puneet, 40, is seen describing the circumstances “that forced him to take the extreme step”. “I am recording my final statement. I am about to die by suicide because I am extremely tortured by my in-laws and my wife,” he said.
Puneet added: “We have already filed for mutual divorce on certain agreed terms and conditions…We at least committed to respect the court and agreed to fulfil those conditions within the stipulated time period, which is usually allotted by the court for 180 days. Now, we are approximately 90 days through the stipulated time period, with another 90 days to go.”
He further alleged that his wife and in-laws were now pressuring him to accept a new set of conditions. He added that they were asking for an additional Rs 10 lakh, “which was beyond his capacity”. “I cannot ask my parents to pay further, as they have already suffered enough because of me.”
TOI made multiple calls to Puneet’s wife and his father-in-law, but there was no response from them. Additionally, messages seeking their response to the allegations were sent, but they remained unanswered.
Meanwhile, a CCTV footage has gone viral that shows a heated argument between him and his wife. During the argument, the woman is heard abusing her husband over some issue.
In another video, Puneet and his father-in-law are speaking about the house and money to be paid.
According to police, the woman and her family members were questioned, but they have made counter-allegations against the bakery owner and his family. “They told us that a case was going on and they were also harassed,” a senior police officer said.
Police said they would probe all the videos and other evidence given by Puneet’s family members. His family filed a complaint for abetment to suicide against his in-laws.
The autopsy was conducted by a team of doctors and was videographed. The body was handed over to his family.
