LUCKNOW: Two railway staff members assaulted a passenger after drinking alcohol together aboard the Amritsar-Katihar Express train on Wednesday evening.
The incident was captured on video by fellow passengers, leading to an outcry and action by the railway authorities.
One Sheikh Majibul Uddin (38), a truck driver from Siwan, was traveling from New Delhi.
According to the police, Majibul befriended two coach attendants, Vikram Chauhan and Sonu Mehto, after an exchange of blankets and linens.
The trio consumed alcohol together, after which a verbal altercation erupted.
The situation escalated, and Majibul allegedly slapped TTE Rajesh Kumar, who had intervened in the dispute. This led to the violent attack.
In the viral footage, Majibul is seen lying unconscious on the train floor, covered in vomit.
The video shows the two staff members kicking and striking the passenger with a belt while hurling verbal abuse.
Following the incident, fellow passengers alerted the railway authorities. The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Firozabad intervened, rescuing the injured passenger and taking him to a medical facility.
Based on Majibul’s written complaint, GRP Firozabad registered a case against Vikram Chauhan, Sonu Mehto, and Rajesh Kumar under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Following the viral video, the Northern Railway office suspended TTE Rajesh Kumar, while the two absconding coach attendants remain at large.
GRP SHO, Sushil Kumar, revealed that the incident began when the passenger, Majibul, had a friendly exchange with the staff, which led to drinking alcohol. He further clarified that the altercation escalated when Majibul slapped TTE Rajesh Kumar, believing him to be a coach attendant, triggering the violent confrontation.
