A Tesla Cybertruck erupted in flames outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Wednesday morning, causing alarm among witnesses.
The scene was captured on video and shared on social media platform X, showing the vehicle fully ablaze near the hotel’s lobby. The individual who filmed the video claimed the Cybertruck “blew up.”
Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the fire. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirmed that the fire was extinguished and said they are “investigating.”
Local news outlet KSNV News 3 reported that a call about the vehicle fire came in at 8.41 am local time, prompting police and firefighters to rush to the scene.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing a series of loud “boom, boom, boom” sounds before the vehicle caught fire. One bystander shared a video on X, showing smoke rising from the vicinity of the 64-storey hotel, known for its “exceptional views” of the Las Vegas Strip.
Police sirens were audible shortly after the incident, and Fashion Show Drive was closed while emergency crews worked to secure the area.
There is speculation that the explosion may have been caused by suspected explosive devices stored in the vehicle’s chest, but this has not been verified by officials.
The incident comes amid reports of Tesla CEO Elon Musk growing closer to US President-elect Donald Trump. Musk reportedly spent New Year’s Eve at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property and attended a dinner with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. According to The New York Times, Musk has been staying at a cottage on Trump’s Florida estate since Election Day.
Social media users on X reacted to the footage, with many expressing shock and concern over the explosion. Some speculated about potential causes, while others raised questions about Tesla vehicle safety.
