Telangana IT minister invites OpenAI's Sam Altman to explore Hyderabad's AI scene over piping hot biryani, Irani chai

HYDERABAD: Telangana’s IT & Industries Minister, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, has invited OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to Hyderabad—not just to experience the city’s famed biryani, Irani chai, and bun maska, but also to witness the rapid strides the state is making in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In his open invitation to Altman during his India visit, Sridhar Babu, in a post on social media platform X on Friday, urged him to take a closer look at how Hyderabad is transforming the AI landscape. “Hey Sam Altman (@sama), glad to see you realizing the potential of Indian AI and its true power to lead the world’s AI revolution! There is a lot more happening here than meets the eye, and the real AI action is unfolding in Hyderabad, India!”
Making a strong pitch for Altman to visit Hyderabad—the city from which Microsoft Chairman & CEO Satya Nadella hails—Sridhar Babu said, “We’d love to have you visit Hyderabad and witness firsthand how we’re transforming the AI landscape and leading the way. Skill upgrading, capability building, innovation, and startup confidence in AI are booming here!”
Sridhar Babu’s invitation to the OpenAI founder, which ended with “Telangana never disappoints!”, comes as the Telangana government takes the lead in preparing the state for AI. Last year, the state government announced the establishment of Future City and AI City, with several hyperscaler investments already secured. Even the World Trade Center inked an MoU with the Telangana government at the Telangana Global AI Summit in September last year to set up a 1-million-square-foot WTC project in AI City.
