Straying Sariska tiger found in kitchen

Three days after two-year-old male tiger ST-2402 strayed from Sariska Tiger Reserve (STR), forest authorities managed to tranquillise and rescue it on Friday. The young tiger was found hiding in the kitchen of a house in Chilki Ka Bas village in Alwar district while villagers shut themselves inside their homes out of fear. On being informed, foresters rushed to the spot, darted the animal and transported it to an enclosure in Sariska’s Karna Ka Bas forest, said STR DFO Abhimanyu Saran. ST-2402 had left STR’s Akbar Range in Alwar and returned to the district’s outskirts via Karanpura village, reaching Chilki Ka Bas Friday morning. The tiger had earlier been spotted in Dausa district’s Mahu Khurd village, where it injured three people. Sariska and Bandikui range forest teams had chased the tiger for 24 hours from Wednesday but in vain. On Wednesday, ST-2402 damaged the windscreen of the forest team’s vehicle before hiding in the mustard fields.
