Ranchi: Two days after Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren met business tycoon Gautam Adani, Congress Sunday reiterated that its stance on Adani Group remains unchanged, even as JMM welcomed anyone willing to invest in the state.
Opposition BJP has taken potshots at both JMM and Congress for their earlier ‘attacks’ on Adani Group, calling them mere poll gimmicks meant to mislead voters.
Congress’ Jharkhand affairs in-charge, K Raju, said, “The entire party stands by Rahul Gandhi’s stance on this (Adani) issue. We have always maintained that neither Congress nor Rahul ji’s fight is against any specific person, but against the methods adopted to secure projects – rail, ports, airports – you name it.”
“Our representatives oppose the manipulation of stock markets by this (Adani) company. It’s a broader fight against Modi govt’s preferential treatment of a few capitalists,” Raju added.
Raju’s statement came after his meeting with the CM on the last day of his five-day visit to the state.
Hemant’s grand welcome to Adani at his official residence caught many by surprise, including JMM’s ally Congress, and triggered political speculation. However, Raju attempted to put all rumours to rest by saying, “Even our allies share the same perspective on this matter. There is no difference of opinion among us.”
However, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said, “Our party has already made it clear that anyone willing to invest in the state and contribute to the well-being of our people is always welcome. Our govt is also committed to ensuring that Adani Group’s power plant in Godda benefits our people by delivering the promised electricity.”
