As detailed by the Guardian, an internal investigation revealed that National Security Adviser Mike Waltz’s iPhone mistakenly saved Jeffrey Goldberg’s contact information under the name of Trump spokesperson Brian Hughes. This occurred after Hughes forwarded Goldberg’s email to Waltz, prompting the iPhone’s “contact suggestion update” to incorrectly associate Goldberg’s number with Hughes’ name. As a result, when Waltz attempted to add Hughes to the Signal group, Goldberg was inadvertently included.
The group chat, which involved high-ranking officials, contained classified information about military operations. The breach has raised concerns about the reliability of Apple’s contact management features and their implications for national security.
