NEW DELHI: Star India batter Shubman Gill was back among runs on Saturday as he struck a resilient century in the Karnataka vs Punjab Ranji Trophy game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
After scoring a lowly 4 in the first innings, Gill struck a solid 102 off 171 balls that included 14 fours and three sixes. However his efforts went in vain as Karnataka hammered Punjab by an innings and 207 runs on the third day.

Gill, who was going through a bad patch and managed just 93 runs in three Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, had returned to domestic cricket.
Leading Punjab against Karnataka, Gill’s team had a horrendous run in the first innings as they were shot down for 55.
Karnataka then scored 475 riding on a double hundred from R Smaran.
In their second essay, Punjab did show some fight but were bowled out for 213 to hand Karnataka the win and a bonus point.
However, the highlight of Punjab’s second innings was the Gill ton.
The 25-year-old got to his first fifty off 119 balls and then scored the next 50 runs off just 40 balls to raise his century.

After raising his ton, however, there was not much of a celebration from Gill as he quietly took his helmet off and raised the bat to acknowledge the applause of is teammates.
Gill eventually fell to a debatable call against Shreyas Gopal on 102.
