'She was upset': Techie held for reckless riding in Bengaluru with girlfriend on lap

BENGALURU: A techie found a new way to mollycoddle his upset girlfriend by making her sit on his lap while riding his Bullet motorcycle on the busy Sarjapur Main Road. Though he succeeded in cheering her up, police wiped the smile off his face when they arrested him Friday and released him on station bail.
Acting suo-motu, Sarjapur police booked the techie — a Bellandur resident — under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Investigation revealed the techie and his friend — both from Chennai — went on the ride at 12.30pm on Feb 22. While the techie came to Bengaluru two years ago, his girlfriend followed him last year. “For some reason, she was upset. I took her outside, but still she was in a bad mood. Asking her to sit on my lap, I rode on Sarjapur Main Road. But I never realised the matter would drag me to the police station,” he said.
The entire ride was recorded by a fellow commuter who uploaded the video on X. After netizens demanded legal action, the cops acted suo motu.
“The accused techie claimed his Bullet (having a Tamil Nadu registration number plate) was sent back to Chennai last Monday. We will seize it when he brings it back,” an investigating officer said.
