PUNE: It was a ‘so close and yet so far’ moment for the Pawar family in their hometown of Baramati where NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and his nephew, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, shared the stage at an event on Thursday but avoided any interaction.
During the inaugural function of ‘2025 Agriculture Festival’ in Baramati, Pawar and the deputy chief minister chose not to sit next to each other.

Pawar’s daughter, Baramati MP Supriya Sule, and Ajit Pawar’s wife and Rajya Sabha member Sunetra Pawar were also present at the event. They sat next to each other but, apart from exchanging smiles, there was little interaction.
In her speech, Supriya, without naming anybody, said, “There is no election now, so we should talk nicely to each other.” But in their speeches, both Pawar and his nephew, did not mention the other.
Following a split in the family as well as the NCP, Ajit Pawar has on multiple occasions avoided sharing a stage with his uncle. During the Lok Sabha and assembly election campaigns, both sides made scathing attacks on the other and fiercely contested the polls against each other.
After the results, both sides have refrained from adverse comments. After becoming deputy chief minister in Mahayuti’s second term, Ajit Pawar, his family members and senior NCP leaders, visited Sharad Pawar’s residence in Delhi to wish him on his birthday in Dec.
After this visit, family members, including his mother Ashatai and MLA Rohit Pawar’s mother Sunanda, expressed their wish that the Pawar family should reunite. It was the first occasion on Thursday, following their statements, that both the Pawars were at the same event.
