TRICHY: A senior officer of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited was found dead in his office with a gunshot wound and a pistol in his hand early Wednesday. The deceased, M Shanmugam (50), was general manager of Seamless Steel Tube Plant inside BHEL Trichy complex. Police have registered a suicide case and launched an investigation.
Sources said Shanmugam left for work as usual around 9am Tuesday. When he did not return in the evening, his wife Parvathy contacted BHEL security team around 7pm. Upon finding his office door locked from inside, officials initially assumed he was at an important meeting. However, as night fell and with no word yet from Shanmugam, Parvathy called the office again.
This time, the security personnel forced their way in at 1.30am Wednesday. They found the senior officer lying dead with a gunshot wound on the right side of his head.
