NEW DELHI: YouTuber Savukku Shankar on Tuesday accused Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K Selvaperunthagai of orchestrating an attack on his residence. This comes after a group of people, disguised as sanitary workers, allegedly stormed Shankar’s home on Monday and dumped “sewage and human faeces” inside.
“I broke a scam in the distribution of vehicles fitted with jet-routing machines to Dalit entrepreneurs. The scheme is sponsored by both the central and the state governments. This scheme is meant for people below the poverty line and poor scavengers. When the government scheme is for poor Dalits, who are below the poverty line as entrepreneurs, most of the beneficiaries, around 130 beneficiaries in the scheme, are above the poverty line,” he told news agency ANI.
“After I broke this scam, the Chennai City police registered an FIR…After they failed in their effort to book me for exposing this scam, they adopted this method…I directly charge TNCC President K. Selvaperunthagai as the person who has organised this attack,” he added.
The incident came to light after the YouTuber shared social media posts showing sewage being poured into his compound, alleging that human waste was also dumped inside his residence.
A police statement, referencing Shankar’s mother’s complaint, confirmed that a 20-member group forcefully entered the house, used threatening language and made threats. “Legal action will be taken on the basis of the complaint,” the statement added.
Shankar stated that a Tamil Nadu Congress Committee supporter broadcast the attack live on Facebook, providing a link to the broadcast on his ‘X’ account.
He reported that the group seized his 68-year-old mother Kamala’s phone whilst she was alone at home, and contacted him via video call with threats.
In her complaint at Kilpauk Police Station, Kamala described how the mob initially pounded on their front door aggressively. “Sensing danger, I did not open the door. Shortly after, around 20 men and women broke open the back door and forcefully entered the house,” Kamala told news agency IANS.
Kamala also alleged physical assault and verbal abuse by the intruders. She further said that the attackers threatened, “We’ve stopped with this for now. Next time, we’ll burn you alive inside the house.”
Earlier on Monday, Shankar, a political activist, implicated a senior police official in the attack, suggesting such an incident couldn’t have occurred without their involvement.
According to PTI, he also mentioned receiving continuous threats demanding he cease his media activities. “I see this as the final warning since I have been talking against this (DMK regime) government and the police,” he added.
