Sajjan Jindal, the chairman and MD of JSW Group, agrees with the world (or rather most of it) that Elon Musk is Super Smart. But he thinks this may not be enough for him to be successful in India. And among the reasons include two of India’s biggest Business Groups in the auto segment — Tata Group and Mahindra Group. Sajjan Jindal made the statement commending India’s Tata and Mahindra Group at the recent Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
Speaking during a panel discussion at the awards ceremony, Jindal said that it is not likely to be a cake walk for Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to chart a success story in India. “Elon Musk is not here. He is in the US,” he said. “We Indians are here. He cannot produce what Mahindra can do, what Tata can do – it’s not possible. He can do (it) under Trump’s shadow, in the US. He’s super smart, no question about it. He’s a maverick, doing spacecraft and all that. He’s done amazing work, so I don’t want to take anything from him. But to be successful in India is not an easy job,” Jindal said.
Elon Musk’s Tesla is reportedly all set to enter Indian shores. The company has reportedly finalised the location for its first showroom in the country. According to a report in news agency Reuters, citing registration papers, Tesla has signed a lease deal to open its showroom in Mumbai. The showroom is reported to be opened in the Maker Maxity building in the business and retail hub of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) near Mumbai airport.
Tesla India entry and PM Narendra Modi’s US visit
Reports about Tesla’s India entry started just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Tesla CEO Elon Musk in the United States. Tesla is reported to have signed a five-year lease starting from February 16, 2025.
Adding to the speculations, the Twitter user who goes by the name DogeDesigner on Twitter has shared posts of Elon Musk’s meeting with PM Modi twice this week. Both the posts with photographs have been reshared by Elon Musk. “BREAKING: Tesla reportedly signed a five-year lease for first showroom in India,” reads the post.
The first post shared by DogeDesigner was from the US President Donald Trump’s meeting with PM Modi. “President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Of India Narendra Modi and Elon Musk,” read the Twitter post.
DogeDesigner also shared a photograph from the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the US Vice President JD Vance.
