Saif Ali Khan stabbing: What cops say on 'watertight' case and what attacker's father claims

MUMBAI: Forensic analysis has confirmed that Shariful Fakir (30), arrested for allegedly breaking into Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence and stabbing the actor on January 16, is linked to the crime.
Fingerprints found at multiple locations inside the actor’s flat match those of Fakir.

However, Fakir’s father, Mohammad Rohul Amin, who spoke to Times of India from Bangladesh, has disputed the identification.
He claimed that the man in the photo released by police has long hair that touches his eyes, while his son has short, upwards-styled hair. Rohul claimed that despite having done “several illegal things”, his son is not a criminal.

White bag recovered
The police recovered a white bag containing various tools and a broken knife fragment, discarded by the suspect near Bandra Talao after a crime scene reconstruction. Further evidence includes fingerprints found on a duct pipe, the bedroom door handle of Saif Ali Khan’s younger son Jehangir, and a bathroom door, all of which are tied to the suspect.
What cops say
During the reenactment, Shariful demonstrated to the police team his entry method: scaling a 4-ft wall to enter Satguru Sharan premises, using a ladder to climb 12ft to access the duct, reaching the fourth floor where he cut the rat mesh with a knife. He then used the staircase to reach the 10th floor, from where he climbed through the duct pipe to enter the bathroom in Khan’s 11th floor flat. He used the same route to escape.

We may be poor, but…
“We may be poor, but we are not criminals. We know he had done several illegal things, like illegally straying into India and sending money (home) illegally. In Bangladesh, he rode a bike taxi for a living. But during the era of Awami League, there was political turmoil in our village and after Sheikh Hasina’s govt came back to power early last year. Since my son was an active supporter of Khaleda Zia, he faced immense backlash and so he decided he had to leave Bangladesh,” said Rohul.
Rohul claimed that Shariful may have some politically motivated cases against him in Bangladesh but one thing I can assure is that my son is not a criminal.
Send me home to Bangladesh: Shariful
“Had I succeeded in stealing money or valuables from Saif’s flat, I would have fled to Bangladesh the same day. I request police to deport me to my home country.”
