‘Court dramas’ these words feel good to hear when you want to watch them on OTT. Ever imagined what a real-life court drama would look like? Well, reportedly, Mumbai Court seems to have tasted some similar action on Sunday, when allegedly two lawyers jostled in a bid to represent the key accused in the high-profile case of Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing incident.
Mumbai Police’s manhunt came to a stop when on Sunday they finally arrested the prime suspect in the case of a knife attack on Saif Ali Khan. Identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, the accused was nabbed from Thane city for allegedly sneaking into the Bollywood actor’s Bandra apartment with the intention of theft and repeatedly stabbing him.
After the initial interrogation, the suspect with heavy police security was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court in Bandra on Sunday afternoon.
According to the PTI report, when the accused was asked if he had any complaint against the police, Shehzad replied in negative. Thereafter, he was taken to a box meant for the accused in the back end of the courtroom.
Once the above-mentioned procedures were completed, a lawyer came forward claiming to be appearing for the Shehzad. However, before he could take the signature of the accused on the ‘vakalatamana’ (legal document authorising a lawyer to appear in a case), reportedly a second lawyer jostled his way to the accused box. Reportedly, this other lawyer then took Shehzad’s signature on his vakalatamana.
This led to confusion as to who would appear for the alleged attacker. However, reportedly, the magistrate suggested to both the competing lawyers to represent Shehzad, to which both the legal professionals agreed.
Amid all this, the court subsequently remanded Shehzad in police custody for five days.
Meanwhile, as we speak, Saif Ali Khan is recovering from his injuries. Doctors confirmed the actor’s health is stable and he will be discharged soon.
