A suspect detained at Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh regarding the January 16 attack on Saif Ali Khan was released on Sunday, according to police officials. Meanwhile, Mumbai police confirmed arresting a 30-year-old suspect from Thane.
“The man detained from the Mumbai LTT-Kolkata Shalimar Jnaneshwari Express at Durg station on Saturday afternoon was just a suspect and he has been released after inquiry. He was kept at the RPF post at Durg station through the night and released this morning,” the police official stated PTI.
Mumbai police sub inspector Pradeep Fude clarified at Durg railway station, “We can detain anyone for inquiry. We had been insisting he was just a suspect. There has been no mistake on our part. We had told the media that we would share authentic details but some went ahead and declared him an accused.”
Railway Protection Force officials had previously indicated that the man’s detention followed receipt of his photograph from Mumbai police. A Mumbai police team, led by Funde, arrived to question the detained individual.
In Mumbai, police announced the arrest of Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, identified as a Bangladeshi national who had unlawfully entered India using the alias Bijoy Das. Initial investigations revealed he had entered the Bollywood actor’s residence in Satguru Sharan building, Bandra, early on January 16, allegedly intending to commit theft. Khan (54) sustained multiple stab wounds and underwent extensive surgery at Lilavati Hospital.
