MUMBAI: Mumbai police is likely to recreate the crime scene at Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence, where he was stabbed by an intruder earlier this month, an official said on Sunday.
The accused in the high-profile case, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man, was arrested early in the morning from the adjoining city of Thane.
A court has remanded the suspect, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, into police custody for five days.
During this period, police are expected to take Shehzad to Khan’s apartment in the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building to recreate the sequence of events. The aim is to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Shehzad allegedly broke into the Bollywood star’s home in the early hours of January 16 with the intention of theft. According to preliminary investigations, he climbed the stairs to the seventh-eighth floor of the building, where Khan, his wife Kareena Kapoor, and their family live with domestic staff.
“He entered the duct area, scaled up to the 12th floor using a pipe, and managed to gain access to the actor’s flat through a bathroom window,” an official said. It was then that Khan’s staff spotted him, leading to the chain of events that culminated in the violent knife attack.
The 54-year-old actor was stabbed multiple times and immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent a five-hour-long surgery.
