CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police constable Amandeep Kaur, who was arrested on Wednesday with 17.7 gram heroin and was dismissed on Thursday, was blatantly defying another Punjab Police order — of flaunting her uniform, and luxury cars and watches, on her Instagram page which has over 30,000 followers.
According to an order issued by the DGP’s office, Punjab Police personnel are banned from creating and sharing reels or videos in uniform on social media, as per the a policy aimed at maintaining professionalism and preventing unauthorised use of the police emblem. Kaur would post these reels with Punjabi songs playing in background, some even mocking Punjab Police itself.
Sample these lyrics from a reel: “Tu aankhen tal ja ni kiddan taliye, puthe kamaan vich taan police rali ai.. (You ask me to stop doing wrong things, but how can I stop when police itself backs us in such wrongdoings).”
In other reels, Kaur flaunted her luxurious lifestyle — expensive watches, high-end sunglasses, and branded handbags and outfits. In a few reels, her Shih Tzu pet dog is also seen wearing fancy dresses. “Four by four di shaukeen lagdi, bina picche vekhe Thar back layi. Oh MK ke bag vich raund rakhdi, kuri agg de bhabhooke vaangu phire machdi (She is fond of 4×4 vehicles and reverses her Thar without looking back. She keeps bullet rounds in her branded MK bag and is very attractive),” plays the song in a reel in which she wears police uniform with sunglasses, and is seen standing near a Mahindra Thar.
As per police, when she was arrested on Thursday, Amandeep Kaur was coming from the side of a chowk which is also named ‘Laadli Dhee’ (darling daughter) in Bathinda. She was arrested by police teams led by Bathinda Sadar SHO Anubhav Jain. The heroin, as per police, was recovered from a black Mahindra Thar which she was driving. Police teams have also impounded her vehicle (PB 05 AQ 7720).
Inspector general (headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “CM Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab govt has issued strict directives to dismiss any personnel found involved in drugs-related cases. Acting promptly Mansa SSP Bhagirath Meena has dismissed lady constable Amandeep Kaur from service, following due procedure.”
The IG further said, “Police teams are also conducting thorough investigations into the assets and properties acquired by the accused. If any illicitly acquired property is found, stern action will be taken in accordance with the law.”
