NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Monday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successor would be from Maharashtra and that “Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) would decide on that.” In response, Fadnavis said, “We will see him again in 2029.”
“Modi’s successor will be from Maharashtra, and RSS will decide on that,” Sanjay Raut told reporters during a press conference.

Should party affiliations influence the selection of the next Prime Minister?
“He (Modi) probably went to RSS headquarters to write his retirement application in September,” Raut added, referring to the practice of leaders retiring at 75.
These remarks came after PM Modi visited RSS headquarters in Nagpur on Sunday.
Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to Raut’s assertions in Nagpur, saying that, “In 2029, we will see Modi as the prime minister again.”
“There is no need to search for his successor. He (Modi) is our leader and will continue,” Fadnavis continued.
“In our culture, when the father is alive, it is inappropriate to talk about succession. That is Mughal culture. The time has not come to discuss it,” he added, responding to Raut’s claim that PM Modi’s successor would be from Maharashtra.
The prime minister visited RSS headquarters and offered tributes to RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar at Smruti Mandir in Reshimbagh the previous day.
He was accompanied by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Later sharing a post on X, PM Modi said, “Visiting Smruti Mandir in Nagpur is a very special experience. Making today’s visit even more special is the fact that it has happened on Varsha Pratipada, which is also the Jayanti of Param Pujya Doctor Sahab.”
He also lauded RSS workers stating that, “Their selfless service has been evident in times of floods, earthquakes, and most recently, at the Maha Kumbh.”
