Facing strong criticism for introducing ‘caste category’ on hall tickets for HSC and SSC exams, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education reversed its decision on Saturday, announcing that fresh hall tickets without the caste category would be reissued.
Updated versions of the hall tickets for February-March Class XII exams will be accessible from Jan 23, and for Class X from Jan 20, the board said.
The board faced severe backlash for mentioning the caste category. Board officials, however, had defended the move, arguing that it was intended to help verify caste-related information and allow corrective measures in case of discrepancies.
