JAIPUR: City police have initiated an investigation after a shocking video surfaced on social media showing a retired IAS officer being physically assaulted by a bus conductor after a heated argument.
Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) has issued an order to suspend the conductor with immediate effect.
As per SHO, Kanota, Uday Yadav, the incident occurred on Friday when retired IAS officer RN Meena from Gujarat cadre, was travelling on a bus from Jaipur to Nayla. According to police, the dispute allegedly began when the bus did not halt at the destination for which Meena purchased a ticket.
The video, recorded by a fellow passenger, captures the disturbing moment when the conductor, identified as Ghanshyam Sharma, kicked and punched Meena after the he objected to being dropped off at the wrong stop. The argument reportedly escalated over a fare dispute, with Meena refusing to pay an additional charge demanded by the conductor.
The altercation turned physical when the conductor verbally abused and assaulted Meena, pushing him, kicking him, and continuing the assault inside the bus.
“We have registered an FIR regarding the alleged assault. The video of the incident has gone viral. We also sought additional information from JCTSL about the incident,” said an official, adding that investigation is being conducted to ascertain what transpired in the bus.
“We will record statements of the victim. Teams have been dispatched to detain the conductor and question those responsible for the assault,” said an official, adding that the bus details, including its registration number and designated route destination, are also being sought as part of the investigation.
