NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party minority wing’s national chief Jamal Siddiqui on Monday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rename India Gate in New Delhi to ‘Bharat Mata Dwar‘.
In a letter addressed to PM Modi, he wrote, “Under your leadership, the feeling of patriotism and dedication towards Indian culture has grown in the hearts of 140 crore Indian brothers and sisters. The way in which the wounds inflicted by Mughal invaders and the plunderers, the British, have been healed and the scars of slavery washed away during your tenure has brought happiness across India.”
“Sir, you have renamed the road named after the cruel Mughal Aurangzeb to APJ Kalam Road, removed the statue of King George V from India Gate and replaced it with the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and connected India’s culture by renaming Rajpath to Kartavya Path. Similarly, I humbly request that you kindly change the name of India Gate to Bharat Mata Dwar,” he added.
“Renaming India Gate to Bharat Mata Dwar would be a true tribute to the thousands of martyrs whose names are inscribed on the pillar. I humbly request you to consider my proposal and grant the change to Bharat Mata Dwar,” he said.
