NEW DELHI: Yograj Singh, the former Indian cricketer and father of Yuvraj Singh, has often been vocal about his opinions on MS Dhoni.
Over the years, he has made several controversial statements, particularly regarding Dhoni’s role in Yuvraj Singh’s career.
Yograj has accused Dhoni of sidelining his son and not giving him enough opportunities during crucial phases of his career.
At the same time, Yograj has also acknowledged Dhoni’s cricketing achievements occasionally, albeit grudgingly.
One such video is viral on social media in which Yograj can be seen praising Dhoni’s fearlessness.
Yograj says, “Dhoni was a very motivated captain, who could tell people what to do. The best thing about him was he could tell the bowler where to bowl as he could read the batsman’s mind. The best thing that I liked about him was that he’s a fearless man. If you remember once against Australia, he was hit on the grill by a Mitchell Johnson delivery and he stood like this and next ball he pulled him for a six.”
Yograj’s remarks have often sparked debates among fans and experts, given the significant contributions both Dhoni and Yuvraj made to Indian cricket, including in India’s 2007 and 2011 World Cup victories.
While Yograj’s comments have often been critical, there have been rare occasions where he acknowledged Dhoni’s contributions to Indian cricket.
Yograj has admitted that Dhoni is one of the most successful captains India has ever had but has always paired such praise with his belief that Dhoni didn’t do justice to Yuvraj’s talent.
Yograj’s remarks have been polarizing. While some fans empathize with his emotions as a father, others criticize him for being overly critical of Dhoni and undermining the larger context of team dynamics.
Yuvraj Singh, on the other hand, has largely avoided criticizing Dhoni publicly.
In some interviews, Yuvraj has maintained a respectful tone, acknowledging his role in Dhoni’s success and vice versa.
