Rajouri deaths not caused by mysterious disease: Minister

JAMMU: Test reports have dispelled the suspicion that a mysterious viral, bacterial, or microbial infection caused 14 deaths in three families in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district since Dec 7.
“All the test reports, including from Pune’s ICMR, Delhi’s National Centre for Disease Control, Defence Research and Development Establishment in Gwalior, and PGI-Chandigarh didn’t find any viral, bacterial or microbial infection in the samples of the deceased,” state health minister Sakeena Masood said on Wednesday.
An official said, “Certain neurotoxins were found in the samples. Further investigation is on.”
Health officials screened 3,500 villagers in Badhaal village of Rajouri’s Kotranka to find out if others were also afflicted with a mysterious disease.
