LUDHIANA: A lack of clarity of immigration rules in the US seems to have gotten the best of the Jagraon-based family of 21-year-old Muskan, a Ludhiana woman who landed in India on Wednesday after deportation from the US.
The family had borrowed money to send her to the UK in May 2024. She relocated to the US this Jan 1 and deported now, but her family is still confused about why Muskan she has been deported.
Muskan’s father owns a shop in Jagraon. He had gathered all his resources to send her abroad. Clueless about how to react, the family has since locked up their home and moved to an undisclosed location.
Even though the family preferred to not to open up on the issue, sources close to them said Muskan cleared IELTS, after which she went to the UK on a study visa. After staying there for a couple of months, Muskan informed the family that she was relocating to the US.
Her father is said to have told people close to him that she went to the US on a flight and things would be clear once she meets them.
Though the amount is unknown, her father is said to have borrowed money to send his eldest daughter abroad. The family is now worried about Muskan’s future and scarred that the deportation might invite imposition of a travel ban for her, added sources. Muskan has three more sisters.
