NCB arrested Bhatia’s son in 2024
In Aug 2024, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested BJP politician Nitisen Bhatia’s son Neeraj Bhatia, who was the then president of Sirmaur Drug Manufacturing Association. It was then revealed that Vidit Healthcare, Codeine syrup manufacturing firm in Paonta Saheb, was involved in the illegal marketing of the syrup. The company was run by Neeraj and Naveen Bhatia. During the raid, the NCB seized 33.980 kg Codeine, 900 pills of Alprazolam, 56 capsules of Tramadol, 210 pills of Lorazepam, 570 pills of Clobazam, along with Rs 15 lakh cash from Bhatia and his colleague’s residence in Delhi.
The ED took action in the case under the Money Laundering Act, which allows for the seizure of assets obtained through the illegal sale and purchase of medicines. They filed a money laundering case against the Bhatia family and launched an investigation. The law enforcement agency then demanded Sirmaur deputy commissioner to provide description of the properties owned by Vidit Healthcare in Paonta Saheb and five others under the acts of PMLA, 2002 on Dec 7, 2024. The suspected properties included those of Nitisen’s son Neeraj Bhatia, his wife Mehak Bhatia and Vidit Healthcare’s property in Kishanpura village as Vidit is co-owned by multiple partners.
The govt officers handed a report to the ED which mentioned that Vidit Healthcare had 163,080 square feet land which was registered under Neeraj Bhatia’s name. Two registered lands were discovered at Naveen Bhatia’s land, including 55,080 square feet land and 27,540 square feet land.
