PUNE/kOLKATA: A 56-year-old woman died late Tuesday of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) at Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital, while two deaths in Kolkata over the past three days are suspected to have been caused by the rare neurological disease that has spawned a cluster of 127 cases in Maharashtra since Jan 9, report Steffy Thevar & Sumati Yengkhom.
The three deaths come days after a 41-year-old CA from Pune who died in a Solapur hospital was confirmed as the first casualty in the outbreak concentrated in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipalities. In Kolkata, a 10-year-old boy from North 24-Parganas with GBS symptoms died at the Dr BC Roy Post Graduate Institute of Paediatric Sciences after being on ventilator support for a week, Bengal health department sources said.
