Protesting farmers dare Punjab government, refuse to seek bail

BATHINDA: The arrested leaders and members of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) have decided not to file any bail applications, instead they wish to see how far the Punjab govt would go in keeping them behind the bars.
A 14-member delegation of the KMM, after visiting the Patiala jail on Saturday, said the arrested leaders were in high spirits and reiterated their resolve to continue with the protest.
The delegation met farm leaders Sarvan Singh Pandher, Kaka Singh Kotda, Abhimanyu Kohad, Manjit Singh Rai, Sukhwinder Kaur, P T John from Kerala, Nand Kumar, P Pandian from Tamil Nadu, and others in the jail.
The farm leaders feel they were cheated by the Punjab govt. The govt did not even care for the convenience of Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a fast for the last 117 days. The way the farmer leaders were treated is intolerable, as the actions of the state govt have echoed across the nation. The farmers will demonstrate to this govt that such actions will not benefit the govt and will only increase the mistrust, stated the delegation.
Farmer leaders Guramneet Singh and Tejveer Singh said the arrested leaders had asked them not to file any bail applications, as they wanted to show the world the reality of the Aam Aadmi Party govt in Punjab. The arrested leaders have asked us to continue meeting people and mobilising them for future protests. We will also meet arrested leaders and members in other jails, they said.
Guramneet also said valuable documents of P T John had gone missing from the KMM office, while his own valuables, including commercial tent coolers, inverters, LED TV, DTH set, and deep freezer, were also missing post police action. Nearly 80 trolleys are also missing from the Shambhu border site, he added.
Apart from Patiala, the arrested leaders have been lodged in Nabha and Sangrur jails. Farmer organisation BKU (Ekta Azad) president Jaswinder Singh Longowal has been lodged in Sangrur prison.
