JIND: An incident has come to light at Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University (CRSU) in Jind. Students were protesting outside the Registrar’s residence at night over poor food and other issues in the hostel. During this, Jasveer Sura, the Chief Security Officer, who is also a professor at the university, arrived to calm the students. The police were called during the incident.
A video of the entire event has gone viral on social media. In the video, it is visible that the professor, who had arrived to calm the students, was put into a police vehicle. When the students lay down in front of the police vehicle to protest the action, they were also forcibly taken into custody by the police.
Jasveer Sura said that he had introduced himself to the police. He was taken away despite that. He mentioned that he was physically assaulted, kept at the police station for several hours, and forced to sit on ground like a hard-core criminal, verbally abused, and misbehaved with. The police officers were reportedly intoxicated. He claimed that such behaviour had never been witnessed inside the university and called for strict action from senior police officials.
Meanwhile, the students including Akshay Narwal, Rohan Saini, Sumit Lather and others have demanded a ban on police entry and submitted a memorandum to the Registrar regarding their other demands. They also sought permission from the Registrar to hold a one-day hunger strike at the university against this action.
Loveleen Mohan, the Registrar of CRSU, said that an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter. Once the investigation is completed, it will be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor, and a decision will be made based on the findings.
