Barring an official confirmation, Prithvi Shaw is set to be sidelined for Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy matches. He last played in December in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) but was not part of the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad.
He was labelled “his own enemy” after not being picked and an official said the team was “forced to hide” him. “In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him and he would barely be able to get to it,” the unnamed official told news agency PTI.

“Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching to the ball. His fitness, discipline and attitude are poor and it is pretty simple, there cannot be different rules for different players,” he added.
“Even the seniors in the team have started complaining about his attitude now,” he mentioned.
After being dropped for first phase of the Ranji Trophy and now Vijay Hazare Trophy, and now seemingly again for the red-ball competition, Shaw has again come under focus. He went unsold during the IPL auction as well.
On Tuesday he posted a selfie near the track and wrote in a post on Instagram, “You can take me out of the game!! But you can’t stop me working… (wink emoji)”.
Shaw, 25, last played for India in 2021. He has played five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I for the country but once considered the next big thing in Indian cricket, he has been pegged back by fitness concerns and discipline issues.
