NEW DELHI: Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, was hospitalized Tuesday for dehydration and infection following his release on bail. Medical professionals transported Kishor via ambulance to a private medical facility in Patna after a physician’s home visit determined hospitalisation was necessary.
The attending physician was quoted by news agency PTI saying, “There are certain medical issues that need to be thoroughly examined. He is suffering from infection and dehydration. He is also weak and feeling discomfort.”
Prior to his hospital admission, Kishor told journalists, “My fast unto death will continue”.
On Monday morning, authorities apprehended Kishor following an FIR filed the previous week. The charges stemmed from his ‘fast unto death’ protest at Gandhi Maidan, which contravened a Patna High Court directive limiting such demonstrations to the Gardani Bagh area. He was subsequently granted bail.
Kishor has aligned himself with ongoing demonstrations by civil service candidates who are demanding the nullification of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examinations conducted last month, amid claims of question paper leakage.
His hunger strike, which commenced on January 2, led to his arrest on Monday and then subsequent unconditional bail.
