NEW DELHI: Massive chaos erupted in Karnataka assembly after opposition targeted chief minister Siddharamaiah over alleged honeytrap scandal accusations involving a senior minister and 48 others.
Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs stormed into the well while shouting “down, down” during Siddaramaiah’s address. The BJP leaders also demanded a judicial inquiry.
“It is not the issue of one party, it’s the biggest conspiracy against legislators who are working for the people and some are doing this (honey trap) with a clear hidden agenda,” leader of opposition R Ashoka said.
In response, CM Siddharamaiah affirmed that no one would be shielded in the honeytrap case. He mentioned that G Parmeshwara had already addressed KN Rajanna’s allegations and initiated an inquiry.
“It is the government’s responsibility to protect anyone in the case. According to the law, the guilty should be punished. The Home Minister replied that if Rajanna complained, a high -level probe would be investigated. Rajanna did not name anyone, action could be taken if he had named someone. There is no question of protecting anyone in the case,” the CM said.
Earlier on Thursday, Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara had announced that a high-level he will order a high-level probe into the alleged honey trap attempt on Rajendra Rajanna, MLC and son of Karnataka minister KN Rajanna.
The issue took centre stage after cooperation minister KN Rajanna admitted to being a honey-trap victim himself, triggering a heated debate in the House.
“It is a serious issue. If we must save the dig nity of our members, we must put a brake on such incidents. I will order a high-level probe into the allegations of honey-trapping made by Rajanna, based on a written complaint to be filed by him,” said Parameshwara.
Senior BJP member Basanagouda Patil Yatnal subsequently alleged that a senior Congress politician orchestrated the scandal to discredit political rivals before a leadership contest.
“We also hear speculation that some people who have set their eyes on the CM post are indulging in such activities to defame their political opponents. In future, they may target anyone depending on their need,” Yatnal warned, without naming anyone.
