NAVI MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji temple in Kharghar, constructed as part of ISKCON’s Glory of Maharashtra initiative. The ceremony was attended by governor C P Radhakrishnan, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, and Mathura MP Hema Malini.
Security measures included road closures near the temple complex, situated adjacent to the golf course and Kharghar Central Park, with over 5,000 police personnel for public safety.
The spiritual complex, built at a cost of Rs 170 crore, spans nine acres and required 12 years for completion.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for the construction of a cultural centre and Vedic museum within the premises. The complex incorporates various facilities, including Srila Prabhupada’s Memorial, educational institutions, healthcare centres, and community service initiatives. Kharghar ISKCON president Sura Das Prabhu said: “It was a great honour to have the PM inaugurating the temple.”
The temple’s design showcases ISKCON’s dedication to national spiritual development and preservation of culture, following founder-acharya A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada’s aim of establishing inclusive spiritual centres promoting global unity. Modi acknowledged ISKCON’s significant contribution to the ongoing Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj.
He said, “Spirituality is the identity of our country, which is known for its unity in diversity. The ISKCON plays a key role in this direction.” He additionally highlighted India’s position as a centre for healing.
