Passenger train derails at Villupuram with no injuries reported; normal services resume quickly

VILLUPURAM: A coach of a passenger train with about 500 passengers bound for Puducherry derailed at Villupuram on Tuesday morning.
Chief Public Relations Officer (Southern Railway) M Senthamil Selvan said one wheel of the MEMU train derailed at Villupuram yard at 5.32 am on Tuesday morning. The MEMU rake was in shunting for another train, and the derailment occurred at ‘Diamond Crossing’. A few passengers were on board during the shunting on the MEMU rake. However, no passenger was injured.
Passengers waiting for this train service were accommodated in the Dadar-Puducherry Express, which was halted at all stations en route to Puducherry to ensure their travel without further delay. The main line remained clear, and hence there was no disruption to traffic on the main line. However, movement towards Puducherry was briefly affected due to the derailment. The entire line was cleared for traffic at 8.40 am on Tuesday, and normal train services resumed.
