Papers for cheetah relocation given to South Africa: NTCA

BHOPAL: The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has clarified that all the necessary documentation which is related to cheetah relocation project has been submitted to concerned officials who are in South Africa, and that these documents have been duly acknowledged as well at this point.
Referring to an article which was published in TOI’s Jan 21, 2025 edition, the NTCA stated that no decision has yet been made regarding the exact number of cheetahs which are supposed to be translocated to India.
Additionally, the NTCA also stated that the required Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species import permit has already been issued by CITES Management Authority in India as well.
“The claim that the authorities overlooked CITES requirements during the planning of the project is misleading, as all necessary permits have been secured in accordance with established guidelines,” said an NTCA spokesperson while discussing the current scenario during the interaction conducted.
The authority stressed that as with previous relocation efforts, all necessary clearances have been obtained from both thenations, ensuring full compliance with international regulations.
