BAREILLY: Eight days after a nine-year-old girl went missing from a wedding in Bareilly, police arrested a paedophile who kidnapped and repeatedly raped her. The girl has been rescued and sent for medical examination, police said on Friday.
Amit Singh (35) has a history of sexual crimes against children, police said. In 2013, he raped a five-year-old girl in Bareilly’s Sheeshgarh area and was sentenced to 10 years in jail. After his release, he abducted a seven-year-old girl in Rampur in 2024 and served nine months in prison on kidnapping charges. He had been out on bail since then.
Additional SP Mukesh Chandra Mishra said, “Amit lives alone as his parents and brother have passed away, and his three sisters are married. He has been booked for kidnapping, rape, and under sections of Pocso Act.”
In the recent incident, the girl had gone to a wedding in a village under Bhojipura police station on Feb 20 when Amit approached her, offered snacks, and gained her trust. He then took her to the Satellite bus stand before travelling to Milak town.
Her parents lodged a missing complaint the next day. After scanning CCTV footage, police found visuals of Amit with the girl. A manhunt was launched, and he was arrested on Thursday night and sent to jail the following day. During interrogation, Amit allegedly confessed to raping the girl four times.
A senior cop said, “People like him are dangerous for society and we will ensure strict punishment for him.”
