BIJNOR: Two French nationals, who were cycling to Kathmandu in Nepal from Delhi, lost their way and reached Bareilly after “Google Maps allegedly gave them wrong directions”, said police on Friday.
Tourists Brian Jacques Gilbert and Sebastian Francois Gabriel arrived in Delhi on Jan 7. They planned to visit Kathmandu, Nepal, by road and left Delhi on bicycles the next day while taking assistance from Google Maps.
Their route from Delhi to Kathmandu was via Pilibhit and Tanakpur, but they ended up near Churaili Dam in Bareilly on Thursday night. As it was dark, they became disoriented and sought assistance at Bahedi police post, but the cops could not help them due to language barrier.
The local police then called Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya, who guided the tourists to take the correct path. Arya confirmed the incident and said police helped them find the right way.
Notably, three people, using Google Maps to navigate their way lost their lives in Bareilly last year when their car fell into the Ramganga river as the bridge was incomplete.
