JAMMU: The old cave of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine nestled in Trikuta Hills of Reasi district in Jammu & Kashmir will be opened for pilgrims for darshan of pindies after religious rituals on Makar Sankranti on Tuesday, officials said here on Monday.
Officials said that, likewise, every year the natural cave will be opened for pilgrims on Makar Sankranti, which falls on January 14 (Tuesday) this year. “The Shrine Board has decided to open the old cave on the auspicious occasion of Sankranti and the timing will depend upon the extent of rush of devotees,” officials said.
Earlier, the old cave of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine was kept open for darshan for nearly 12 hours a day, from 10am to 4pm during the day and from 10.30pm to 5am at night.
The entrance to the old cave remains closed for a significant part of the year due to its narrow dimensions. To accommodate a larger number of visitors, two new caves were carved out for both entry and exit.
