A resolution by Republican Andy Ogles to make Constitutional amendment allowing US President Donald Trump or any future president to be elected to a third term has received widespread reactions on social media platforms.
Social media users reacted to the resolution with some even speculating Obama to go against Trump and expressed how will it be if the resolution turns into reality with

Ogles proposal if passed will enable Donald Trump to remain in office until 2033, at which point he would be 86 years of age. He justified the proposal by stating that Trump should serve an additional term to provide “the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs”.
However, the proposal mention that the president can only run for the third term if he has served two non-consecutive term, leaving the former President Barack Obama ineligible for another term.
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,” the proposal states.
Meanwhile, this suggested modification to the 22nd Amendment faces significant hurdles, requiring both congressional approval and ratification from at least 38 states.
Currently, the 22nd Amendment restricts presidents to two terms. Trump completed his initial term from 2017 to 2021. At 78 years old joined Grover Cleveland as the second president to secure non-consecutive terms following his victory over Kamala Harris in November 2024.
The resolution comes just days after Trump was sworn in for a second, non-consecutive term, becoming only the second US president to achieve this feat. It also follows a resolution introduced two months ago by Rep. Dan Goldman, a New York Democrat, reaffirming that the 22nd Amendment applies to two terms in the aggregate as President of the United States and applies to the 78-year-old Trump.
Additionally, Trump has repeatedly hinted at his willingness to serve more than two terms in office. In November, he reportedly mused to House Republicans, “I suspect I won’t be running again, unless you say, ‘He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out.'” In May, he had said, “I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term or two-term? Are we three-term or two-term if we win?”
